Hailing from Long Island, New York, Sputnik's Down formed in the summer of 2002 when one of it's members was approached to write a song for a low-budget film. Built upon foundations of rock, jazz, and opera (believe it or not), Sputnik's Down has developed a truly unique sound that is often loosely compared to bands such as Maroon 5, The Wallflowers, Counting Crows, and the Dave Matthews Band. The band's lyrics conjure images of misguided love, the unanswered questions of youth, and even U.F.O.'s. It's songs are held together by a tight rythm section with color provided by guitars, piano, and organ.
Sputnik's Down has spent the last eighteen months recording and assembling it's debut album, Going Down, which is due out in the first week of December (2004). A record release party and concert was be held at New York City's Crash Mansion on February 12, 2005 and was a smashing success.
With plans to begin touring next year, and an aggressive performing schedule that has included stints at many significant New York City venues, Sputnik's Down is on the verge of becoming one of today's premier live rock acts.
